Taysom Hill coming back means...
...we will have an interesting situation at QB. Hill is the better athlete. Mangum is the better passing QB.
How well will Hill have recovered from his injury? If Hill loses his athleticism, he loses any advantage that he has. It will be interesting if Hill starts and struggles and it is obvious that Mangum is better....what then? Poor Hill. Would have been fun to see his career develop without injuries. |

I'm probably more excited about Detmer bringing back a pro-style traditional BYU offense than about Hill coming back. But it will be interesting to see how the competition goes down between Hill and Mangum under this offense.

I suspect the pro style does best with a very good OL. Which BYU does not have. Thus there are reasons to believe that 1) it won't be successful, or 2) we won't see a traditional pro set.

It is advantageous to have two quality QBs, regardless of the Oline abilities. That is the pivotal position going into 2016. I imagine Ty is flexible enough to adapt his approach. Let's hope so.

In a pro offense, it also helps to have receivers who have speed and are deep threats. Also critical to have an accurate QB (Hill is not, Mangum is).
The advantage of shotgun is quick throws where the OL does not have to block for very long. Also makes the QB more of a running threat. Hill is most suited to a non-pro offense. He is best suited to the shotgun and making easy throws. Mangum on the other hand could do either, but is less of a threat running. |

There are formulas to see whether how much Taysom's running ability compensates.
Net Points = 0.08*Yards - 0.21*Plays - 2.7*Interceptions - 2.9*FumblesLost http://www.sph.umn.edu/faculty1/wp-c...rr2010-022.pdf |

What do you mean by "pro style"? West Coast offense is passe.

I'll answer for him.
1. QB under center most of the time. 2. Tight end. 3. At least 1 RB in backfield. 4. Vertical passing game is a big part of what the WRs do. 5. Play action is part of the offense. |
