Boring and unimaginative choices for the 3 apostle vacancies
A Utah based church stayed that way. Ugh. That is a big finger to the rest of the Church.

The Sltrib article stated that if a non-American were to be selected, that person would be more likely to be conservative re: role of women.
I think the role of women in the church is the biggest issue of the next 10 years and likely a lot longer than that. So these three will play a large role in that. One of the three has a wife who was a senior partner in a law firm and they had one child (far from your stereotypical "authentic" LDS family). But who knows. I don't know. It will play out as it plays out. It's not like I knew what was going before these three, and it's not like I will know what's going on while these three are at work. |

I agree the role of women will be significant but there appears to be little movement to increase the role outside of conservative, be not seen or heard, which is currently the norm in the LDS Church.

There was a talk from Russell M. Nelson that women's voices are wanted and needed. But I didn't hear of any structural organizational changes that would facilitate that.
But to be fair in the past couple years there has been some movement towards taking power away from Bishops and giving it to Ward Councils. (this was much needed). |

The Church is usually decades behind social change. But this change is required by the organization. Why leave more the half of the membership on the sidelines? With the church losing men in droves, you want to handcuff the women who stay? Doesn't seem like a wise choice to me.

Patience young paduwan. They do not have the women to lead, it's going to take time.
The pressing matter is preparing the female youth of today. And you could certainly point to decreasing the age for women to go on missions as evidence of preparation for the future. Some of those women will be leaders in future decades. |
