There's no more than meets the eye. Rocky is hideously insecure in his testimony, racked with guilt and doubt, and Adam (not really intending to address Rocky at all) throws salt in the wound with his scholarly but piquant essays on the LDS Church.

I doubt the accuracy of your assessment. There are others here who wax philosophically, but Rocky doesn't bother with them.
