Aye.

I went to Tahiti on my honeymoon. It was cheaper than Hawaii in December. Tons of fun. Every room came with a couple of masks and snorkels.

I'll bring my uke and we can sing songs while Arch and Goatnapper do the Otea (it is a tahitian dance and yes, I do own a uke; more than one in fact).

Aye. I have been to Tahiti three times in my life and I'm willing to sacrifice for the good of the whole to make it four.

I will be happy to arrange this, provided that everyone evidence their good faith by committing to such an event, even if he's called to the Ivory Coast.

On a related matter, we visited our friends in Padova, Italy (near Venice) while they were serving as Mission President in '01, and stayed in what they referred to as the General Authority Suite of the Mission Home. I thought seriously of bringing a Frederick's of Hollywood teddy to hang in the closet, since Elder Packer was coming the week after us and would probably appreciate the humor.

I guess you can play them? That's a skill and a half.

Maybe we should just wait until he actually gets the details, you know, just be safe and all.

I play, sort of, although an astute observer of tahitian culture would probabyl point out that the otea is danced to drums and tuares and not ukes. So they will need to do an aparima.

Correct, ukes are Hawaiian, not Tahitian.

And creekster is also aware which Polynesian culture does NOT use the drums.

Well, all talk of strung instruments is post european contact. Tahitians do not use the hawaiian uke, but there such a beast as the tahitian uke. It is typically tuned alittle differently and is strung most auythentically with fishing line (this is true) and has a very thin, high pitched sound.

Maoris do nto use the drum or the uke, typcially. They tend to use the guitar alone. They do have nose flutes, howevr, and that is not dirty.

There are lots of cool Maori instruments, but what's the name of the two balls on a string.
