The lead acress' name is Kathleen Beller, and the Legacy movie was created in the year 1990. I Googled "Kathleen Bellar Playboy" and found this site that says her Playboy pictoral was in the July 1983:

So it seems she appeared in Playboy seven years before Legacy, not after.
She married "She Blinded Me With Science" Thomas Dolby.

was she LDS?

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.

I've also heard that the actor who played Joseph Smith in Legacy, and the actor who played Jesus in The Testaments, have taken on some questionable roles.

As I understand it, yes on the former, no on the latter. There was an online article a while back on the Danish guy that played Jesus in the Testaments, and about how rigorous the search had been. (Wish I could find it now.) They wanted a guy with a clean history, and (among other things) required him to confirm he'd never been nude on stage/film before. My understanding was that this was based at least in part on the debacle with some of the Legacy actors.

I also seem to recall a DVD or book or something being at Seagull a while back, detailing the story. I didn't pick it up.
