Hmm, we could debate the leadership's role in those instances, but that aside, we have Joseph (among others) pretty clearly indicating that such is not God's purpose in the latter days.

seemingly not to the definition, as I understand it from the scriptures.

But who am I to judge, as I doubt those that were called wicked thought they were.

The materialism that is decried in the BoM, are we not to that level? I don't know.
