I don't think this hurts McCain as much as losing the nomination would hurt either Dem candidate.
If Clinton wins (she won't) it would be a lot. If Obama wins (he will) it won't be many.

I can't speak how miffed Obama supporters will be but many Clinton supporters are downright angry at Obama.

Republicans are going to be sorely disappointed in November. Particularly those like Myboynoah who think the Dems are throwing this thing away.

A reader kindly pointed me to this useful site showing GOP primary results from 2000. As you may remember, John McCain had withdrawn from the race in March that year, leaving Bush the presumptive nominee. Under the circumstances, these results from some of the later primaries caught my eye, and in particular:

North Carolina (May 2): Bush 78.6% (vs McCain's 74% in 2008)
Indiana (May 2) : Bush 81.1% (vs McCain's 77% in 2008)
Nebraska (May 9) : Bush 78%
West Virginia (May 9): Bush 79.5%
Idaho (May 23) : Bush 73% (19% Keyes!)
New Jersey (June 6): Bush: 84% (16% Keyes!)
South Dakota (June 6) : Bush 78%

There's no doubt that McCain has more of a problem with some elements of the GOP base than did George W. Bush, but let's not overstate it.
Cali would do well to educate himself on history before posting.

Spin it however you want. McCain has some real issues right now with the base that will be a whole lot harder for him to fix than Obama's issues with Clinton supporters.

Perhaps. No one is denying McCain has his work cut out for him. But your Pennsylvania example reflects your ignorance of the historic trends and undercuts your assertion.

When it comes to politics, you're one hilarious dude, Cali.

Why doesn't the party just declare Obama the winner already? What is holding the uncommited super-ds back? As you've stated it's obvious that Obama is going to win out in terms of having the most delegates and popular vote. Can't these super-ds see that?

You like to blame the media for extending the race. The blame should go to those uncommited super-ds. The media is only reporting on what is an odd development.

Obama can't finish, so he's waiting for someone else to do it for him.

When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.

Obama's troubles are just beginning.

The media is so enjoying the Obamessiah that they haven't stopped to notice that Obama only received 26% and 30% of the vote in the respective West Virginia and Kentucky primaries. 74% of West Virginians (over 200,000 voters) and 70% of Kentuckians (over 450,000 voters) went to the polls just to vote AGAINST the guy who was guaranteed to win the nomination.

He isn't "guaranteed" to win the nomination. Perhaps you don't understand the difference between Obama's position and McCain's? Like I said, Tex- you REALLY struggle with comparisons. Stick to discussing one issue at a time. When you try to compare to another issue, you get lost quickly.

Heh, right. You don't believe that.
