Feel free to ignore me.

And I'm still interested in knowing what about the two polls I posted today infuriates you.

Why do you care what he thinks. Seattle wouldn't be a good role model for you.

Amen! Let me add a bit if I may. When President Hinckley issued the challenge to read the BOM by the end of the year (last year?) you couldn't go anywhere in Utah without hearing someone talk about the damn challenge. Questions like, "Where are you? Only Second Nephi? The chart says you should be in Mosiah chapter 3. I am 6 chapters ahead". I heard that crap at work, in the store, in restaurants, at my family gatherings. I seriously considered moving. It's like all of Utah turned into the Wilkinson Center.

That's why you just tell people that you read the entire BOM in one night the day after the challenge was issued.

What's wrong with this one?

Actually, I do agree that there are a lot of aspects of mormon "culture" that may be annoying, but I really don't see the harm of crappy LDS movies, EFY music (although you won't catch me listening to it), John Bytheway, etc.

I say this because my in-laws, especially my MIL, could probably be your prototypical Mormon. She does most the things on your list (except dominate SS discussions or consider nonbelievers inferior) but she is one of the nicest, most charitable, servingest people I know.

She may not ponder on the intricacies of the doctrine, but she takes to heart the important things, and enjoys the general Mormon culture, including the crappy movies, music and other art.

And Bluehair, your avatar might be the most disgusting and beatiful thing I've ever seen.

Then she doesn't do the one thing I consider to be the true bane of Mormon culture: look down upon those who don't like it.

I have only two grievances against "Mormon culture": 1, I don't particularly think of it as high quality; and 2, it is often accepted as being especially pertinent to our religion to the extent that those that do not embrace it are considered as being of a lesser spiritual status.

Case in point: one apartment in my mission housed four elders. One sunday, we were listening to Handel's Messiah-- truly inspired music, if ever music was inspired. One elder pressed the stop button and announced that we would now be listening to some "Church" music. He then proceeded to put in a CD of the Best of EFY.

I have no quarrel with imperfect people striving to be more perfect. If your family enjoys that particular brand of movie, music, et cetera, that doesn't bother me in the least. I do get a little annoyed when my spirituality is called into question if I don't think anything of it; and often, it has been.

I don't think there is anything wrong with doing the things AA described. They can be uplifting and help inspire people to better live their faith. IMO, the problem occurs if people believe that doing those things is essential to being a LDS.

I used to get really upset and annoyed by Mormon pop culture, etc. I still feel annoyed, but not quite as much lately.

I'll take Mormon pop in a heartbeat over Oklahoma's "Jesus is my boyfriend and I love him" culture.

The only solution to the annoying aspects of Mormon pop culture is to reintroduce Mormon socialism or educate people about the evils of giving money to exploiters of the faith.

Okay, I can definitely agree with AA's and YOhio's posts. I just thought AA's earlier post in which he mentioned that liking said bad mormon cultural music & art was a sign of being a "Mormon".

AA, when you say "If your family enjoys that..." please note that I only said my MIL liked it, there is a lot of stuff in the genre that I can't stand also.

SC brought up something that I would've included in AA's earlier post: the "Mormons" that sell living scriptures and other priestcraft garbage.
