With respect to conservative use of the word "socialism," it isn't just now that the issue of misuse has arisen. I don't know if stupidity is the reason, as you claim, but I think it is instead willful ignorance and a healthy dose of misinformation from Fox News.

I could have a modicum of respect for Obama if he'd just admit that he's a socialist.

Obama will redistribute wealth, just like Clinton did, the economy will rebound, just like it did with Clinton, and Obama will kick the crap out of the GOP nominee by an even greater margin come 2012.

Unfortunately for the US you are right. Sadly the US economy will be just like any Western Europe country. Tons of social programs, High taxes and stagnating economy.

So protectionism = socialism? Washington and Hamilton would be amused to find out they were socialists.

Two problems with your argument about the US becoming just like any Western European country: 1. Most Americans don't have any reason to think that would be a bad thing. They have traveled to Europe, enjoyed Europe, heard stories of everyone having health insurance in Europe, etc. 2. Despite No. 1, the US is not remotely close to being like Western Europe, Obama isn't going to make the US just like Western Europe, and arguments to the contrary are totally disingenuous. In sum, you and those like you making this argument are fearmongering (which is failing, because people in general aren't scared of what you are saying the US will become), and the conclusion that you want people to reach through your fearmongering (that the US will be just like W. Europe) isn't even reasonable. |
