For a great alt-country band check out Lucero. Was that already mentioned? I went to the last page on this thread rather than reading pages 2 and 3. Tim

I heard on the radio this morning that they had to cancel their Memphis show(only 9k tickets sold) and it looks like they might have to cancel 4 more.

DixieChunks canceling for lack of interest? Thanks for cheering me up.
Hoya wanted something molly mormon of me. Their lack of interest is a good sign.

Just finished reading the Times article about the Dixie Chicks. I have to say I was pretty impressed. Whether you agree with them or not, it takes a lot of balls to say that they aren't going to lie about their political beliefs in order to sell more records to the mainstream country music crowd. What's not to like about this? Standing up for principle. Not caving to commercial pressure. Giving Nashville the finger. It's all good. Bravo, girls. Way to go.

I read that article too and I'm not sure it is a matter of standing up for ones political beliefs, or painting onesself into a corner and not being willing to say that what you did was a mistake. Do I think it is wrong to trash your previous fan base? Uh, yeah I do. However, they're playing now to the anti-bush crowd...which probably is greater in number than the country music fan base.
So, In a way, they are still using thier "politics" (which, from the article I gathered meant reading the newspaper) to sell records.
