Say what you will about his political policies, but leave his years of service alone. Guys like him put their lives on the line in order for you to have the right to degrade his service, but it makes you look like a cretinous jackass to do so.
Do you feel the same way about Kerry's service and the swift boat ads? I never heard you complain about that, but maybe I missed it.

I am non-partisan when it comes to military service.

How about the American soldiers who raped and massacred the innocents at My Lai? Are they off limits too?

McCain is nothing like that and you know it.

All I said was that he happened to get shot down. I don't think his experience makes him a hero. I'm not degrading his service. I'm saying that he's not a hero. Wearing a uniform or being captured or even refusing to go home when a chance is presented does not by default make someone a hero.

And you're full of shit.

I repeat, he willingly put his life on the line and went through hell as a POW and you mock him.

What have you ever done to ensure freedom for the rest of us?

Since when was the Vietnam War about American freedom? I feel bad for those soldiers. But I don't think they were ensuring our freedom. They were doing what they were told, and I feel bad for them. I know there were plenty of heroes among them. But I don't think they're all heroes.

I can't tell you how many testimonies I've heard in Church about our soldiers defending our freedom in Iraq. Someone please explain to me how invading Iraq defended our freedom.

Vietnam was a mess, but it should have been about the freedom of the South Vietnamese people, instead of the politicians running that war.

The US military isn't just about ensuring freedom for Americans. For some reason, the world has decided that it's the US' job to protect their freedoms as well, wouldn't you agree?

There are some bad soldiers, yes. Just as there are bad civilians. My point, again, is that I believe it is off limits to diminish a former POW whether you believe him to be a hero or not. We'll just have to agree to disagree when it comes to that.

If he were a regular vet, I might agree. But he's running for president, and he's going to be sending more of our soldiers to die in a pointless war. Nothing heroic about a person who wants to do something like that.
