Good news - it seems the GOP has kindly made room for an actual, you know, conservative at their upcoming convention. After the party had announced that such legendary right-wingers as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Rudy Giuliani, and Joe Lieberman would be speaking, there was concern among the fiscal/federal conservative voters that the party wasn't going to bother to include any true conservative in the program. You'd think they'd want to for appearances if nothing else.
So there was some relief today when it was announced today that Senator Tom Coburn, revered as one of the last conservative holdouts on the Hill, has been invited to speak. Personally, I'm kinda hoping he'd call McCain's bluff on the reduced spending thing, but he's said he's going to speak on the dangers of waste in Washington and the need for reform in general. But what does it say about the party that they barely found room for a conservative at all, and even then only as a last minute deal after negative right-wing press? |
