It is an "all in". If it goes down as a cheap ploy, he won't recover.

If he pulls all ads and campaign stumps, maybe, just maybe, he's seen as a 'maverick' "showing leadership". So far, he has once again captured all of the media's attention. He's sucked all the O2 out of the room. There is no room to cover Obama, because all eyes are on McCain.

One thing is for sure: McCain has thrown some heavy-breaking curveballs into the status quo of the modern presidential election cycle.

McCain's message for the next few weeks will be that he'll risk losing the election if it means that he can help the economy. It fits in with his lose election win war meme.

Right. The crazy thing about McCain is he keeps making these moves that everybody's like, "what the hell is he thinking?!" but then they work. Masterfully. He's turned into some kind of mad genius. He calls plays like Les Miles calls plays. All last year everybody said, "one of these is going to come back and bite him in the ass," except he just kept winning. (If I already made that comparison, I apologize, I have trouble keeping track of what I've posted where.)

You don't bust out the no-Friday-night-debate-unless-an-economic-bailout-deal-is-reached move over mere format.
Statement from McCain: he will not appear on Friday. He wants the debate rescheduled for next Thursday, the date of the VP debate, and wants the VP debate moved later in the season.

Statement from the debate committee: the debate will be held as planned.

I don't blame him. Palin's only hope is that Biden says something offensive to Gwen Ifill.

And that is something that quite possibly could happen, based on Biden's history of off-the-cuff comments.

I could see it. In the middle of a question about race relations, Biden looks at Ifill and mentions how much he loves soul food and Popeye's Chicken.

Funny. Will there be a cold war with the 'debate committee'? What if he doesn't show up and says "screw you"? I'm not sure what kind of POTUS he would make, but he makes the election cycle interesting.

That was funny. Very funny.

The 10 year old wants to know what I'm laughing about. What should I tell him?

YOhio, stop shmoozing Barbara. It's unbecoming. You know Palin will hold her own.
