Seattle, this is really simple. College presidents don't want the liability if an underage college kids drinks himself to death or if an underage kid gets drunk then runs over a group of sorority pledges and kills all of them.

Lowering the drinking age would remove liability from the universities and the presidents.

There is no other possibility. The debate is over.

Actually, it says that Gee doesn't necessarily want the age lowered, but that policies need to be reviewed.

They are not immune from liability if the drinking age is increased.

But certain theories of liability would no longer be viable.

If it gets lowered to 18 it's going to be that much easier for high school kids to get alcohol.

This is a stunningly convincing rebuttal to the college presidents who support lowering the drinking age:

If the legal drinking age is increased? Can I assume you meant decreased?

If the age is lowered to 18 and a 19 year old kid gets drunk to the point that he drives his car through the student union and kills dozens of others, wouldn't the University President try to say "Hey, the legal drinking age is 18. He did this on his own."?

But if the drinking age remains a 21 and the same thing happens, the University President couldn't point to a legal aged drinker on his campus.

Or am I missing something? Is the law really that clouded?
