Church PR: we didn't go "rogue"
http://www.sltrib.com/lifestyle/fait...mon-pr-boss-we I believe that. This statement was fully endorsed, and perhaps even scripted, by an apostle. |

I'm wondering if Mormonism will shrink back the hills and mountains from whence it came, choosing a path like that of the Amish. Perhaps not literally walking away from the rest of society, but figuratively and spiritually. Retreating to our ward houses and stake centers and our administrative meetings and councils.
But that would be a course correction. A change in strategy. The emphasis on Sunday worship represents, I think, a concern that Mormons are becoming too secular, too worldly. It's a tough line to draw. I attended an activity on Sunday morning before church. And I was able to tell my friends that I had to split so that I could be at church. Maybe that leads to a conversation. Maybe that leads to new friends somewhere down the line. And it may be that me showing up on Sunday morning leads to a lot of social change (it's led to my work possibly wanting to join in--too long to explain). What's in the world, and what's not? Do I go to the bar with my softball team? Had several conversations about Mormonism in that bar that would never have otherwise happened. We may go back to the hills, but there's a world with problems here that needs our help. |

Church says it will remain in scouting.
http://www.deseretnews.com/article/8...t-program.html I need to look at the actual PR if it's available to see how strong it is. The BSA-LDS relationship was seriously damaged by that PR and if this new PR is lukewarm that will continue the slide of scouting in the church. |
