there's a spiritual I learned at one point in my old singing days that I always think of on Easter: The Angels Rolled de Stone Away I have no idea which arrangement I learned, but I did sing it once as part of a group in an LDS sacrament meeting. It was an a capella one I sang, for like SSATTB or something.

I've heard "The Holy City" sung on Easter before.

"Jesus Paid it All" (gorgeous song)

I think it was called "An Easter Medley" (had portions of "Christ the Lord is Ris'n Today" and other Easter songs... lots of alleluias, though)

"The Lord is My Shepherd" (Mo-Tab has sung it multiple times... not the hymnbook arrangement... the tenor part is kind of high, though)
There are some cool arrangements of "Jesus One of Humble Birth" out there, too

We had one very dramatic choir direct in my home ward who would rearrange songs into very dark, minor versions that we would sing very slowly. We sang this song called "Then He Died" and the last four bars are the words "And then he diiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiied." It felt unnecessarily lugubrious.

Farrrah, are you looking for choir numbers that you could use and sing or are you looking for instrumentals that you and perhaps others in an ensemble could perform? Most of the choir pieces I like would take my ward's choir more time than you now have before easter to learn. I have a couple of pieces that I really like but whose names I can't remember. I will try to track them down by Wednesday evening. In the meantime, if you have any further insight into your request (or if you can let us know if you are already satisfied with some of the suggestions here) that would be appreciated.

If you don't sing this one, the Easter Bunny will not come. Think of all the sad children.

Here comes Peter Cottontail
Hoppin' down the bunny trail,
Hippity hoppity,
Easter's on its way

Bringin' ev'ry girl and boy
A basketful of Easter joy
Things to make your Easter
Bright and gay

He's got jelly beans for Tommy
Colored eggs for sister Sue
There's an orchid for your mommy
And an Easter bonnet too. Oh!

Here' comes Peter Cottontail
Hoppin' down the bunny trail
Hippity hoppity
Happy Easter Day

Look at him hop and listen to him say,
"Try to do the things you should"
Maybe if you're extra good
He'll roll lots of Easter eggs your way

You'll wake up on Easter morning
And you'll know that he was there
When you find those choc'late bunnies
That he's hiding ev’rywhere, Oh!

Here' comes Peter Cottontail
Hoppin' down the bunny trail
Hippity hoppity
Happy Easter Day.

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.

Creekster, I looked over the music we have already selected for choir (about 4-5 pieces) and decided we probably better not take on any more choral pieces. I did appreciate everyone's suggestions, though. I have a lot of good ideas (I hadn't heard of most of the songs suggested) if I do this again next year.

I really need an instrumental, vocal solo, or even vocal quartet. These are my resources: Solo-worthy soprano, bass, and tenor. Instrumental: violin, flutist, and me on the piano. Possibly a classical guitarist (though he is still learning, not sure how good he is yet).

This is what we have planned for choir so far
-I Stand all Amazed (a nice arrangement by the choir director)
-an Alleluia by Bach
-that Easter medley that Mrs. Funk mentioned
-possibly an arrangement of O Savior thou that wearest a crown, but with different lyrics and harmonies
-Jesus Christ the Apple Tree (I wasn't so sure about this one, but it grew on me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cm3fZDZxiko )
-Possibly A Promise through the Ages Ring
