Moreover, Mormons have some of the thinnest skins around. The fact that so many Mormon leaders come from backgrounds that are thin in the fine arts probably doesn't help. There are some decent Mormon poets (and alot of hacks) but they get no attention. Terry Tempest Williams is a top-shelf writer and she is sadly almost an unknown in Mormon circles. Avard Fairbanks is a notable sculptor. I'm now drawing a blank on Mormon artists. I could list world class Jewish artists for a long time...

I've almost never read any quality from Mormons.

If you are Mormon, and make art about Mormons, watch out.
Church has very thin skin about such things. |

a good LDS BYU artist: http://www.davidlinn.com/
David Linn trained at BYU. I would buy one of his pieces, if I had money. I remember seeing his work displayed in the HFAC, and it has stuck in my mind since. |

Seriously, the best Mormon writer artist ever is probably Neil LaBute. Look what happened to him.

Great writers are usually sinful by Mormon standards, and not cut out for temple recommends.

LaBute wasn't exactly embraced by his church was he. They tried to stifle him.
