A good number of Mormon Republicans think that all active Mormons are Republicans. I am not a Republican, but I don't go announcing it unsolicited in church (or anywhere else). There are probably about a dozen families in the ward who know I am a Democrat. I get emails similar to this all the time, because people assume I am Republican. As a tame example, we have had people in the past tell us we may want to check our son's facebook page, as it looks like he has been influenced by his peers. The reason for this was he had pro-Obama messages on his page. It doesn't really bother me, because most of the time it springs from a kind of innocent provincialism (and I don't mean that in a negative way), rather than malice.
Obviously I haven't seen SIEQ's message, so I am not saying whether I would be offended by it or not. |
