One worked with him on the Olympic committee, the other involved in some logistical management.

In terms of elitism, how many folks do you work with who aren't elitist, to some extent or another? Unless you drive trucks or work in a bakery, you're striving to become elite, that's the American ambition.

For that matter, a huge chunk of the LDS world is striving to become an LDS elite, ala big house on the hill, leadership increasingly vertical in the hierarchy, be one of the "select", have your kids have multiple high-society spousal options, go to BYU, earn millions, etc.

That's elitism, ain't it?
either get on the train or get out of the way!

It's funny to me that anybody would be surprised by that.
My brother in law was in attendance. Yes, my BIL is elitest as well. He went to years and years of medical school and now makes plenty of jack and owns a house in the hills.

I guess he could have just sat around and whined about everyone passing him up.

Honestly, do we really want middle-class people running the country?

I'm okay with people that have taken risks and actually acheived something in life. Despite my seeming antipathy toward Obama, I do respect his having done what he has done. He took risks, he navigated the system and came out on top. And despite his wife's repeated statements, they've done pretty well by that "he didn't go to Wall Street and I left corporate America to serve people" strategy.

Yeah, but you don't attempt to deceive, as in "ah shucks, I don't remember, I may have said H-E-double-hockey-sticks, but I just lost my temper for a second, and shouldn't have"

You just come out & say "bullshit", or drop F-bombs, or whatever, and admit it if anyone asks.

Honesty is admirable.

I try not to cuss. But some of the judging and reffing at the Olympics was awful.

My grandfather drove a delivery truck for a bakery, BTW, and he was definitely not an elitist, but he strived to achieve as much as he could for his family as long as he lived.
In other words, it is a very big group, including know-it-all moralistic dentists, pretty much every politician, most lawyers... essentially anyone who from a position of economic or social or (perceived) moral or ideological superiority judges those "beneath", isn't it?

I would rule out Mother Theresa and Gordon B. Hinckley outright. Damn near everyone else of any kind of level of success and judgement is suspect.

"When I went to college I didn't take any money from WIC, worked all night, took a full load, got straight A's and now I'm a millionaire. If some of the supposed 'downtrodden' would step up & get a work ethic, they wouldn't have to depend on a government handout."

Elitist, on the face of it.

Anyone who adversely judges any other group is a kind of elitist, of some sort.

So we can debate all over the place about their personalities and if they are rich or elite.

Bottom line is they are all politicians and would lie through their teeths to get elected and stab anyone in the back they had to to get elected. MCCain, Barak, Biden and Romney all would.

Now we have established that, Obama is definitely leans in a socialist, call it progressive if you want, philosophy to cure the countries ills and create fairness for all. If you look at most socialist on on end to the extreme of socialism which is communism, there is no fairness for all. Maybe you creat more lower middle class and less poor, but you wipe out the upper middle class. You are left with middle class and lower middle class, plus the elite, rich and aristocrats.

Your ability to move up the latter becomes much harder unless you slide into the entertainment sector of the culture.

If you already have it made, you should have no fear of Obama. You can live like the elite in Europe. If you don't have it made and want to have it made, move to some developing country.
