Obama is a good man. Good men don't become president. McCain is a true devil.

Devils become president.

The USA will pay in blood for the choice of McCain, but guess what--Americans are happy to pay that price. It makes them feel good about themselves.

You will get A LOT of people on this site pose McCain as God's torch bearer but they are full of shit.

Now I don't know what Mike really thinks about McCain - you can never tell with Mike.

But here's what I don't get. A year ago, Mike and I were the only ones defending McCain. We were the only ones saying, "the party's got no choice but to go with McCain. He's their only hope."

Now the rest of the board was like, "No way in hell I'll ever vote for McCain!! I'd vote for Hillary before I vote for McCain!"

So what happened? I don't get it. I mean, I can understand deciding to begrudgingly support the lesser of two evils. But to go from outright antipathy to defending the guy to the gates of hell; to being unable to concede a single weakness of the man...I'm just confused.

You are exaggerating the feelings of most towards McCain. A year ago most people thought he was dead in the water and he was largely ignored. The harshest statements against McCain were made in the heat of the primaries when he was being unfair towards our beloved Mitt. Those wounds have been healed, despite your insistence on reopening them.

You just proved my point. Those are two Republicans.

A full out fight could get really ugly.

Cut to ad...

"Senator McCain, everyone agrees you're are an American hero and your service to your country is unquestioned & appreciated..." (picture of McCain as war hero)

"But you've been in Washington a long time..." (flashing pix of McCain during the Keating 5 scandal)

"And while you've been fortunate in career & economically, how can you know what the average American has to deal with if you can't remember how many homes you have?"

"And (showing footage of McCain fumbling the question of whether women should have birth control paid for) have you been in Washington so long you can't decided what to do on a simple issue?"

(Picture of McCain looking old & tired...)

"It's time for a new era in Washington"

"
And counter with an ad and a picture of Obama and Ayers with audio of Ayers saying "I don't regret the bombings. We should have done more."

Then the announcer asks "Which would you rather have in the White House. A guy who's been in DC forever or a guy who is a friend of people who want to kill rich people, want you to kill your parents and doesn't give a damn that he did it?"

People expect politicians to not be in touch. But they don't expect their President to be friends with a bunch of people who hate this country.

Well, I won't argue the details or offer salt as you lick your wounds, but the passion with which I see posters defend McCain is something I don't understand; to me it's no different than the Obama kool-aid-ers.

For the record, I've been pushing your beloved Mitt for VP for months, and I seriously think if he gets the nod he'll end up president.

That's really easy to explain - the more we learn about Obama, the better McCain sounds. These are the final two and we have to go with whichever sucks the least.

yeah, I already said that. But when you choose the lesser of two evils one would think you'd still be willing to concede the evil of the chosen.

Somebody tried to explain it to me like this:

Your team's star pitcher gets injured mid-season. You're screwed without him. So a deal is worked out, and you get the pitcher from your rival's team. Now, you hated the guy last week and found all kindsa ways to argue how sucky he was. But now that he's wearing your colors, by golly if he ain't the best pitcher you've ever seen, and he's going to save the season for sure.

I'm not a baseball fan, but I guess that sounds about right.

That's pretty accurate. If he's on my team, he's ok.

Now, if you want a sports analogy that you might understand a bit better, let's say that if strange things happen and Mrs. Clinton gets the Dem nod Obama were to declare himself a Republican so he could have a shot at the White House, that would be like Kobe Bryant signing a free agent contract with the Jazz. If that happened, I would never root for the Jazz until Kobe was gone.

And I wouldn't vote for either.

For the record, I don't deny that there are things about McCain that I don't like, but for me, he's still a much better choice for POTUS than Obama.

Hyperbole thy name is Barbara Gordon. Maybe I'm just obtuse, but I'm really not seeing the sudden glorification of the great Senator and American hero former POW John McCain. Even Tex prefaces everything he says with, "I'm not a big McCain fan." But if you just want everybody here to say that you and Mike were correct a year ago, then hey, to quote Indy, "LINK?"

Will you believe me if I say I doubt God has anything to do with it?
