There are so many ironies in social conservatism. Abortion is bad, bad bad, Jesus is good, good, good. The murder of children due to denying medical care to children for religious reasons is fine, sending our kids to Iraq to die for no reason is awesome! the death penalty is necessary, but healthcare is unnecessary, helping the poor is unnecessary. Protect the unborn, screw the born.

Agreed that there are ironies. There are also several ironies in social liberalism. It's ok to murder an unborn baby, but how dare we put to death a mass murderer who violated the right to live of his victims; we want you to pay your share, but don't ask me to pay even more so you don't have to; tolerate intolerance; etc.

If a child dies because a parent denies him/her medical care for religious reasons is murder and the parents should be put to death.

I've made no secret that Huckabee doesn't excite me in the least. Were you doing somersaults for Dean, pre-scream?

I think you will get your wish of seeing him on the stage with the others. I don't think you will get to see your dream of him being eaten alive by anyone.

His position on Iraq is unteneble in a general election, especially as things settle down post-surge.

This is all silly, he's not going to get the nomination.

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.

touche. Of course, even the church doesn't consider abortion murder. I think what makes social conservatism so hypocritical is their constant emphasis of Jesus, while completely ignoring his teachings. He spoke constantly of the poor, and never once about homosexuality, abortion, capitalism, etc.

Why do you think that? Do you really think America will respond to mindless bloodthirst over reason?

You are correct, but I'll point out that social liberals would also throw the book at Jesus because he would dare teach people about God in a public square.

That the LDS Church doesn't consider abortion murder doesn't sway me at all, but the church also doesn't encourage abortion just because it is inconvenient.

Actually, liberals are the ones defending people's rights to express themselves on public property. The conservatives have given us the concept of "free speech zones." As long as Jesus didn't erect any religious symbols on public land he'd have been good.

I'm not talking about free speech. I'm talking about getting rid of God in all things public. Why do liberals fear the 10 commandments - you know, the rules that Jesus made - being displayed on public property?

Are you talking about the church not allowing people to protest the church on private property, but on the public sidewalks adjacent to the property?
