I watched an oldy over the weekend
My dad has a large collection of old movies in his basement, so I figured just for the fun of it I'd pick one and watch out.
I watched Forbidden Planet and had no idea that Leslie Nielsen from Naked Gun fame was in it. He played the movie straight the whole time in B Science Fiction movie made in 1956. The whole time I couldn't get over the fact that Frank Drebin was mixing it up with a robot in space and some hot innocent chick from another planet. |

I like to watch the higher rated old movies sometimes(prob 1 or 2 a month). What I do is tivo selected movies from TCM. It works very well; no commercials or anything.
I watched Forbidden Planet this way and it was pretty good. The guy who did the intro gave some interesting details about it. Prior to FP, several low-budget scifi pics had been made with progressivly better box office sales results. So a studio(forget which one) finally decided to break the bank and do it right. The result was Forbidden Planet. I found it rather entertaining. The special effects don't compare with today's, of course, but the story was implimented so smoothly that it didn't matter to me. A pretty good film, really. |
