the Zach Wilson era?
Certainly a promising first start. But we have seen this movie before. Promising freshman who later goes on to mediocrity, or even worse. Even Taysom Hill fits this description.
1. At this point, there is no further reason to invest in Tanner Mangum. We know that. 2. Wilson seems to have the ability to see and execure in a way that Mangum could not. 3. We don't expect Wilson to be perfect as a true freshman. And he was not. His feel will have to improve. When to zing it, and when to put touch on it. I think he erred at times by not getting the ball into the windows with more velocity (for example, his interception). 4. It was hard to know what was going on in the 2nd half, when he struggled a bit more. Receivers open or not? Coverage sacks? 5. He is much more mobile than Mangum, that's a big plus. 6. It's hard to judge a quarterback when the offensive line and running game was so dominant. That's always going to make a QB's job much easier. But overall, I like him, I have hopes for the future. And this is much more entertaining than watching a struggling Mangum. CG trivia. Wilson is Seattle Ute's nephew. Of course many of you already knew that. |

On the TD to Holker he appeared to zing it in correctly.
I want to hear SU comment.

BTW, to crown this the Wilson era is premature. Like what we did to Critchlow last year.

I had the feeling that the praise was premature. It's pretty easy to do well when the offensive line was dominant. But suddenly you can't rush? Can't do any effective play action? That's when it is tough.
Kid still looks like he has talent, but there are going to be a lot of growing pains. At least I hope these are growing pains. |
