BYU would be better off in the MWC
Jay Drew finally revealed that he hates BYU fans.
http://www.sltrib.com/sports/2244759...yu-fans?page=2 I don't like the WCC. While teams in good leagues have tons of meaningful matchups during conference play, we have little in the way of interesting games. Gonzaga and SMC. And then upset losses to the dregs. I'd much rather be in the MWC for basketball. Not an option though. Isn't it weird that BSU is arguably now a better basketball program than BYU? |

And given the MWC's history in the NCAA tournament I'd say, "please give us a MWC team to play in the NCAA tournament!" There are other things about the MWC that are better than the WCC, but they're not really about the quality of the basketball. It's mostly just the environments and fan interest that are better. I'm not convinced that teams like CSU or even SDSU or BSU would have that easy of a time in the WCC. WCC teams play much smarter in general and shoot better. MWC teams are more athletic but in general dumber and not great shooters. That has to be a major reason why BYU did so well there. The SDSU/BSU game the other night was horrid offensively and totally unwatchable if it weren't for the importance of the game in terms of NCAA tournament implications.

for whatever it's worth, the computer formulas out there have fairly consistently rated the WCC higher as a whole since BYU switched, and it seems the gap is widening, mostly because the new teams the MWC brought in are dragging that league down. You can argue different points either way, but it's far from a slam dunk that the MWC in general is a better league. More interesting teams for BYU fans to watch their team play against, and better fan environments and history/rivalries, yes I'll give you that for the MWC. I wish the P5 hadn't destroyed the college football landscape and the MWC hadn't made some really bad TV decisions that made this change necessary, but the WCC isn't that bad of a place for us. It's really just the best of no great options. I'll take the P12 or Big 12 in a second, but they're not asking us to join right now. Unfortunately the switch also coincided with BYU basketball being in a rebuilding mode that we're just now coming out of, IMO.

Hmm, if you take away one of the worst MWC teams and replace them with BYU, I wonder if the standings flip.
