That would mean (1) Christians observed the Sabbath from the start and it was only interrupted, and (2) Christians observed it for 99% of its history. Hardly not an integral practice of Christianity.

If a conference wants us badly enough the sunday thing isn't a problem. The WAC, MWC, and WCC don't or didn't have any trouble accommodating that for us. Unfortunately, we're still not wanted that much in the Big 12 for them to make the necessary minor changes. In the Big 12 I think it's actually more of a problem for their TV partner Fox Regional than for the conference itself. The Fox Regionals are a programming wasteland when they don't have live sports, and on Sundays during certain times of the year if they aren't showing a Big 12 sport, they are stuck with infomercials or maybe fishing shows if they're lucky. FSN can't make any money if they don't have enough inventory. It could be accomodated if they really wanted to, but it's deemed to be too inconvenient to be worth the trouble right now.

A guy had an article posted on Deseret News that suggested BYU join as football only, with the condition that it keeps its own TV contract.
Meaning that all the other teams would keep their current share. And BYU would get whatever scraps ESPN would allow it (maybe the amount of the current contract with BYU). Until 2025 when the new TV contract comes up. Of course by then Texas would have probably blown up the Big 12. That idea, while not ideal, may have some merit. But it does not address how the 12th team would be handled. |
