vs. Utah
I would be nice to have a basketball coach who understood basic things like:
1) shot selection 2) the value of defense, after all it's about half of what you do on the floor 3) which players are good and which players suck 4) a half court offense. of some kind. any kind. It would also be nice to have a coach who could actually get his team up for big games and play well. Instead of losing every single one. Dave Rose has recruited well, and he does have an up tempo style that is fun. But man, sometimes I wonder. This BYU team is soft. And mentally weak. And it's not going to get better until some things change: 1) Tyler Haws is not asked to create on his own 2) We get some guards who can shoot free throws 3) Kyle Collinsworth develops a shot better than an average sixth grader 4) This team can play a competent man defense Right now, this team is trending towards the NIT. You can probably bank on them losing both games to Gonzaga plus perhaps 3 more games in conference. |

Ok, I'll say what we are all thinking.
There's a good chance even if we don't want it, we're going to have a new coach in the next 3 years. The return of cancer is never a good sign. I hope he stays and lives for another 30 years. But we have to steel ourselves for the possibility that it will have a different ending. |

*I didn't watch the game because the PAC-12 channel is not included in DIsh top 200. And there is no way I'm paying a dime to get that channel. I did listen to part of the game on the radio. And I have a pretty good idea of how awful it looked. One thing that wasn't clear to me was how much man BYU played during the game.
