Turning point for Romney
that's the new storyline. That Newt has surged to the front, and that Romney is now in trouble. That Romney is floundering and will likely to go down.
That Romney is planning negative attacks on Gingrich as a flip-flopper, so that Gingrich falls into the same category as Romney. But there is a problem with that. It doesn't win people over to Romney. "I hate Gingrich because he is an unorthodox flip flopper" doesn't then translate into "so I'm going to support Romney." And if they are equivalently bad/good, Romney has no inherent personality or charisma to win people over. Romney ought to forget those kinds of attacks. If he needs attacks, then he should invest in some rapid-fire oppo research that can threaten to take down Gingrich on something unrelated (i.e. corruption and cronyism). Or even some personal moral failing outside of the known egregious ones. Slip some money to the NYT and let them do the work. Romney needs to make himself come across as likeable, steady, and optimistic. Compared to the Gingrich asshole, careening, and sarcastic/biting persona. Problem is that Romney has trouble introducing himself because he is a somewhat known quantity. |
