Bull Frog, a houseboat, and a week off.
Some of my best vacation memories.

This poll has three negative responses and only one "I love it."
I don't hate it, but I don't love it either. I enjoy it for a few days here and there. |

Fun place, but a backpack through Coyote Gulch will help you see the Sierra Club's POV. I'm kinda torn. |

Does anyone know if the dam was removed whether the canyon would return to its original condition or would the sediment harden and remain in place?
Even though a native Utahn, I have never been to Lake Powell.

For those that do not love it, are you on foot or are you spending your time waterskiing, wakeboarding, riding wave runners, cliff jumping, boating, and otherwise destroying the ecology? Not to mention the BBQs, campfires, and general lack of garmenty goodness.
I guess I dont see how people could go waterskiing for a week at Powell on a houseboat and hate it. We always try to branch out and do some hiking, but it gets too hot for land stuff.

Here's what I like best about Lake Powell:
Fishing for striped bass in the alcoves and being able to take a dip when it gets too hot (but I have concerns about cleanliness of the lake); Fly fishing below the dam (this would be the biggest loss if they blew it up, IMO); Hiking among Anasazi ruins (but they immresed a lot of these, didn't they?).

One thing I know--Glen Canyon Dam would NEVER happen now. Maybe that's a good thing, maybe it's not. |
