It was painful. I realized just how out of shape I am. Like I didn't already know.
So it was about 13 miles and I averaged 6.3 miles an hour. It was so embarrasing to be going so slow, but that is all I had in me. There were times when I was surprised that I could go as slow as I was and still not fall over. 2 hours of slow climbing in the heat of the day ( it was 88 when I started) . But 5000 feet of elevation gain later I sat by a cool mountian stream and then went on a hike with my kids so it was worth it. At least now I can say that I have done it. |

He is a former college wrestler, I believe scholarship athlete, so his level of fitness is different than the rest of us weekend warriors.

gymnast, walk-on that eventually got more than books. Now just a weekend warrior who was sucking major wind after running only 4 miles this morning.

IOW, scholarship athlete of the collegiate variety. If I had half your talent, what I could accomplish.
