patrol leader election
We had it today. We have only one patrol.
Our 15 year old Life Scout with a bajillion merit badges beat out a 11 year old kid who was attending for the FIRST TIME today (i.e. not even a tenderfoot) by ONE vote. I was sweating bullets. But I was prepared to live with the results. I convinced the bishopric to let the 11 year olds start attending, since we have no 11 year old program. We need to bodies anyway. |

elections are a good wake up call. Esp for one of our selfish 15 year olds who is too "cool", and doesn't want to admit to himself that his selfish behavior has lead to zero respect from his peers.
The YM president worries that he might feel bad after the election. I worry about rewarding selfish behavior through appointment and coddling. |
