Riders have great heart and lungs and are pretty good runners right off the bike, but it's different enough that they have to put a couple months in to get their speed back up.

Some people can run off the bike in a brick bike-run and some cannot. I was a decent recreational runner prior to law school and gave it up until thirty years later when I starting triathloning. Transitioning between bike and run is tough until you pound the miles.

Running is fun and can be done quite easily but cycling and running slow each other down. Running slows your power and speed in cycling with the opposite result also being true. For example, before I added cycling, I could run 6 minute plus miles without too much difficulty, now, it's quite difficult for me to do more than four or five, unless I really bear down on the running intervals and tempo runs. I also lag in crit rides, easily being dropped because my top speed isn't there.
