I'm 100% with BlueK. Stooping to immoral tactics decreases our moral authority, and much of the strength of the United States rests with our moral authority.
As such, our status has fallen in the world, not just with foreign governments, but with foreign people. Gitmo, Abu Ghraib, renditions, waterboarding, etc. To someone like Tex, these are all good things that show we will do what it takes to win. To people like BlueK and myself, it shows we are willing to destroy what we stand for to "win". If we destroy that, there is no purpose in winning. Tex fundamentally lacks a moral compass. Remember, he couldn't even say if he would PROBABLY oppose his Bishop or Stake President planning and conducting mass murder. Someone like Tex, I won't shed a tear if something he wishes on others happens to him. Karma is a bitch. |

No, I'm very optimistic in general. To a fault according to some people probably. But when it comes to things like government you are right. And so were the Founding Fathers who thought you had to assume the government was going to usurp too much power if allowed. That's a pessimistic view. It's communists and socialists who are on the optimistic end on this topic. Is that where you want to be? I assume as a self proclaimed conservative that you don't trust the government with your money, but you do trust that they will protect your civil rights? What do you base that faith on? It's why the founding fathers wrote the Constitution how they did. Now we have presidents who go above and beyond and try to push the limits wherever possible while "conservatives" stand aside and cheer them on. Sorry, but I don't think government can be trusted on its own to just do the right thing in regard to liberty. They must be held to the law.

The next logical step is to remove guns and tasers from the hands of our torturous police officers.
