In a new ward and stake. Doing my best to fly under the radar. Came out once for the basketball team, but bailed on it to be on my old ward's team. Just mainly sit and keep my mouth shut in church.
So on Sunday, we arrive late, sit in the foyer the whole time. After Sacrament, I am walking w/ the kids to primary, and the Stake President steps out and accosts me. He knows my first name! How the hell did that happen? He introduces himself and asks me a few questions. On Sat. the bishopric called and asked if they could visit Sunday afternoon. Super Bowl Sunday? What the heck are they thinking? So the Bishopric comes, and they are very nice of course. Give us the once over, our whole biography, what callings we have had. I think I saw the bishop lick his lips when I told him I had been a Scoutmaster. Radar evasion officially over. Good callings for me: 1. Sunday School teacher for youth. 2. Scout committee (not chair). 3. Primary teacher w/ wife (never had this calling, nor have I been Sunday School teacher either). 4. Secretary in the Sunday School Presidency. 5. 2nd counselor in the SS Presidency 6. 1st counselor in the SS Presidency (as long as the president is reliable in attending Ward Council) 7. Oh yes, lest I forget the ultimate calling for me--ward webmaster. Maintain the lds.org ward website. 8. Another--ward survivalist coordinator. Dang, there are a lot of callings I would be good at. |
