Here's my deal, and I'm highly cynical about politics media and all of it, so bear with. If we can make it clear that racism is still a real threat in America, that generates sympathy for Obama and may provide motivation for some of the undecided voters to vote Obama just to speak out against racism. Coincidentally, the only racially-motivated plot against Obama to garner much publicity makes all the headlines the week before the election.

Is racism or a bad economy a bigger threat? Currently a bad economy is a bigger threat. Sympathy votes can wait.
