I think y'all are seriously underselling Palin, which I'm sure makes you feel better. I confess, I think she's been turning in grade C performances ... far from "bombing" but far from stunning too.

But I seriously doubt the woman is as uneducated or unpolished as some of these interviews are making it seem. I'd guess what we're more likely seeing is a result of a conservative semi-populist being drafted into a "maverick" "cross-the-aisle" campaign. She seems unrelaxed not (IMO) because she hasn't thought about the issues or has no opinion, but because she's worried about saying the wrong thing. The person she's trying to sell is not Palin, but McCain.

I heard Limbaugh say a while ago, "Let Palin be Palin." Seems right to me. I think were she at the top of the ticket and free to speak her own mind, we'd see a better performance. I'd like to see McCain give her some slack and let her attack issues on her own turf.

Some might say that nerves is no excuse ... that if you're gonna be VP, you have to handle the pressure. Probably so. But I don't think she's hurting the ticket much (approvals still at 54%, and she's rallied the base), so she's got some time to grow into national politics. Hell, Joe Biden's been there for decades and still can't stop shooting himself in the foot. If Palin is Miss South Carolina, Joe Biden is Gomer Pyle.
