Default Hedge trimmers--gas or corded?

We have a B&D trimmer, but last time the battery was put in the charger, smoke issued.

It's $50+ for battery and charger, don't think cordless is a good idea anyway.

Corded sounds like a real pain, as I have hedges on three sides of the house.

So I guess I have settled on gas.

There is the kind that is like a normal hedge cutter, than the kind that comes on a pole, for hard-to reach places. I don't really need one on a pole right now.

Any recommendations on brands? I'm thinking about getting an Echo HC-150.
