The McCain Huckabee dance
It's fairly obvious now to everyone that these guys are tag-teaming on Romney, securing a path for McCain to frontrunner status and probably the nomination. Sans Huck, the path would have been much more difficult for McCain and probable that we would be looking at a Romney nomination right now.
So, how does McCain reward his little bitch? The VP slot is the obvious prize, and as much as Huck denies campaigning for it, this is surely behind his continued presence in the race (or is just Mormon-hating). Choosing Huck could be a good move in that it mobilizes a very passionate part of the electorate that will show up at the polls in force in November. It could also be seen as a concession to a certain portion of the right. Conversely, not choosing Huck could be seen as a slap in the face of someone that played an essential role in McCain's fight for the nomination. Other than offending a bunch of Mormons, what are the negatives of a McCain-Huckabee ticket? Will the country club and business Repubs also turn away? Has McCain painted himself into a bit of corner?

Give 'em Hell, Cougars!!! Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith. |
