I counted 19 (if airports count). I have lived in the city limits of two.

More interesting to me would be the list of metropolitan areas. The list shifts when more than official city boundaries are taken into account.

My quick count was 18. But I agree that it seems strange to count Fort Worth separately from Dallas, for example, or Mesa separate from Phoenix. Like this: last winter I flew to Phoenix for a wedding. The wedding was in Mesa, and I stayed in Scotsdale. Did I actually go to Phoenix? Technically, I don't even know.

FW really is a separate place from Dallas. Personally, I believe it is a stretch to think of them as the same metro area.

As you point out, Dallas shows up as 8th. But if you combine DFW and the rest of its metro areas, I guarantee it shows up much higher, maybe 3rd or 4th. EDIT: Here's the kind of list I'm thinking of. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_o...tistical_Areas

Okay, but it still leaves me unsure. I've been to the airport several times, which is DFW. Where is it? I don't even know. I personally wouldn't even count airports, but I did stay in Dallas (?) for most of the day and left for several hours to meet a friend (not you, as you may recall, since you were too busy ). I don't even know what "city" I was in. Apparently one, but not the other.
