I've broken down in Checotah
I was invited to visit a friend in Dallas for a couple of days, to ponder and get my mind off of things. Decided to go home through Oklahoma City, to see the temple there. While heading east on the 40, right before the off-ramp for a tiny town named Checotah, my engine light came on and my car stopped accelerating. Trying to restart the engine, listening to it groan, it sounds like a timing belt, although I just replaced the timing belt last November. Camry with 102,000 miles.
I am completely at the mercy of the honesty of the mechanics at the Toyota dealership, who will look at it in the morning. In the meantime, I am at the only hotel in town, a cockroach motel called the Royal Inn. $55 per night. The mattress is a sinkhole. I could be here for several nights. When it rains it pours. |

Get a $20 hooker and a box of wine, and the experience will be complete.

Since you're stuck anyway, you might want to look at the, uh, scenery around Checotah. They grow 'em pretty hot up there. That's where Carrie Underwood hails from. |

Sorry Babs. I actually thought of you (no lie) when I saw the signs in Norman, saying next exit OU. You and the guy from my school that did his undergrad there. But I had no idea what part of the state you live in.
My AAA tow driver was all about Miss Underwood. He pointed "that's her family's farm over there" and "her high school" and so forth, but I wasn't paying attention because I feel sick to my stomach. I don't think I'm going to Ann Arbor now. |

Norman closes its doors when Cougars come through town. I guess they can't live down the damning loss to the Cougs in 1994. The thought of admitting they are winless against us is too much.

Checotah - halfway betwixt Lakes Eufala and Lake Tenkiller, actually a nice area. Make fun of Oklahoma as much as you like, but I think you have a MUCH better chance of getting an honest deal from from a car repair shop in Checotah than Dallas or Memphis. Good luck. |

I would love to drive up and help you but the price of gas is too high.
And my butt hurts when I sit that long. |

I owned Corollas for more than 20 years - just recently sold one; got a Camry for my wife. Here is good forum for Corollas, the people there might have a guess about what is wrong with your Camry or point you to a Camry forum, many participants own other Toyotas. http://www.corolland.com/forums/index.php |
