This is getting ridiculous.
Jane Harmon needs to resign. And if Pelosi knew what reports say she knew about Harmon and the quid pro quo described below, Pelosi needs to resign.
What is even more frustrating is the DOJ's response to Harmon. For those not following the case, Harmon made a deal with a Jewish lobbying organization that she would support their positions if the organization would push for her to be the head of a congressional committee. Clear bribery. She was caught on a wiretap (so ironic) by the NSA. The NSA then notified Justice, and Justice then notified Pelosi and the minority leader about the investigation (they are required to due to separation of powers issues). Then, Alberto Gonzales, the AG at the time, decided he would have his own bribe. He told Harmon Justice wouldn't prosecute if, in exchange, Harmon would publicly support the wiretap program (remember- the one which improperly caught Harmon in the first place?). Harmon agreed and, as a high-level Democrat with lots of national security experience, her comments helped the Bush administration secure passage of the wiretap program. All charges against Harmon were dropped (although charges are still pending against the Jewish lobbying organization). Ridiculous. Harmon caught for bribery. She is then bribed by those who were supposed to prosecute her. Just unbelievable. Was any justice actually carried out by Justice during the past 8 years? |
