High gas prices and mass transit
I'm seriously thinking about taking the bus to work. Cost of gas is something fierce, and a year's pass to mass transit for me is only $40. Downside is increased commute time, upside is decreased cost, and I can actually read as I am commuting.

I'd be interested in doing the same however I'm afraid it just isn't worth it here. I live in a city of just under 100,000 people and the bus service is sketchy at best. A 10 minute drive to work actually becomes 1 hour because I have to transfer and wait.
When I lived in Boston, $40 a month got me unlimited access to bus and subway systems. It was far more efficient than driving. Europe was the same way. |

Have you used the mass transit before?
I used the San Diego Trolley for a semester and some days my ears would bleed...making it difficult to read Civ Pro. Not to mention the occasional white-hate comments, of which I was the overwhelming minority. |
