Default It's ok not to own a gun

Just like it is ok not to vote. Your choice.

All it means is that someone else is doing their civic duty, and you are not.

Agreed.

Colly Wolly needs to step it up.

I've got golf clubs and some numchucks in my trunk. Does that count for anything?

It counts for a class one misdemeanor in my state. Carrying a concealed weapon without a permit. Of course you can wear a gun on your hip here, but you can't conceal any weapon in your vehicle. In open view on the back seat would be permissible. I say you put your numchucks there.

I have a friend who keeps an SKS in a golf club bag in his trunk. He calls it "urban camouflage".

I told my wife that I had to go in to the office for a few hours today to finish up some work. She said that is OK since she was planning to take the kids up to the gun range.

When I was a med student, one student was shot in the head while he slept in his apartment (he survived). His apartment was about 50 yards from me.

Another med student was carjacked at a Blockbuster (that I also went to), drive a couple miles away, then shot to death.

You begin to see why someone might choose to arm himself/herself.

It's your civic duty to own a gun? What a giant crock.

Yes. And this is codified in Switzerland.

"being necessary to the security of a free State"

A militia (not the military, not the national guard) is necessary to the security of a free state.
