It's pretty cool--I can use my phone as a wireless modem for my Mac (even though the phone is windows mobile). I just measured my speeds, 62 kbps download, 39 kbps upload. So not so fast. But way better than 3kb/s old-school modem.

You can use a Sprint phone as a USB-tethered modem for a laptop. 234 kbps both ways. No monthly fee. Connects in seconds.

No data plan required. Just a basic cell phone contract.

so in other words a sprint phone that dosn't have a data plan, where you can't check your email, can work as a data modem for free.
