Default I now have t-mobile EDGE

It's pretty cool--I can use my phone as a wireless modem for my Mac (even though the phone is windows mobile). I just measured my speeds, 62 kbps download, 39 kbps upload. So not so fast. But way better than 3kb/s old-school modem.

You can use a Sprint phone as a USB-tethered modem for a laptop. 234 kbps both ways. No monthly fee. Connects in seconds.

Yeah, but it's free. And faster.

How is it free? Your cell phone plan is free?

No data plan required. Just a basic cell phone contract.

so in other words a sprint phone that dosn't have a data plan, where you can't check your email, can work as a data modem for free.

is that what you are saying? Hard to believe.

Yes, that is what I am saying.

But I don't want to make you puke, so have fun with your expensive 39 kbps connection. (can electrons even move that slowly? hmmm....)

The comments at the bottom of this article.

http://www.geardiary.com/2007/10/14/...-sero-read-on/

Some phones not all phones.

Requires two year contract.

Quote:
Unfortunately, new Sprint customers are able to port their number from their existing carrier to Sprint when they sign into the plan but existing customers cannot port numbers from an existing Sprint account.
So really the only downside is that 1) it is sprint, 2) requires a 2 year contract.

EVDO would be faster than EDGE.
