We're talking about circumstance. Many of us believe that this is not something that changes. Some of us would change in a heartbeat, some of us wouldn't. I personally have learned so much from this, I wouldn't give it up
That's very telling. Some of them wouldn't change even if they could.

I hope there is a drug on the horizon with power to change people.

I'm glad they have a forum wherein they talk about it.

Check this out. The group that was protesting the event.

It's like a closeted gay cougarboard reactionary started his own treehouse club.

You look at this a little closer and you see that it is a way to make money off of the books they sell. "Your son is gay, buy these books" is the implicit message.

Headline: Gay Mormon students risk excommunication with ‘It Gets Better at Brigham Young University’ video

The headline doesn't match the copy.

http://www.statesman.com/news/nation...n-2291866.html

Quote:
A mere five years ago, BYU students weren't allowed to discuss their sexual orientation without risking expulsion under the school's strict honor code. A clarification in 2007 stressed that "one's stated sexual orientation is not an Honor Code issue."

In 2010, BYU lifted a ban on advocacy of homosexuality. That same year, students formed Understanding Same-Gender Attraction. The support group drew eight people to its first meeting. This semester more than 80 students have attended the weekly meetings on campus.

Gay students must still adhere to much stricter standards than their heterosexual classmates under the updated honor code. While premarital sex is off limits to all BYU students, straight couples are allowed to kiss and cuddle openly on campus. Gay students cannot.
Quote:
The video initially drew nasty comments from some anti-Mormon and anti-gay groups. On campus, however, the reaction has largely been positive, Wilcox and White said.

Some gay activists are celebrating the video as the latest sign that the church is becoming more open to their community.

In the 1990s, LDS leaders openly fought same-sex marriage legislation nationwide and, in 2006, joined other religious denominations in asking Congress for a marriage amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Gay church members were often sent to rehabilitative therapy to "get fixed."

But gay activists said they have made strides in recent years. A conference for LGBT Mormons was held in Salt Lake City last year and is scheduled to reconvene later this month in Washington, D.C. At the meeting, gay leaders plan to unveil an "It Gets Better" video featuring Mormon adults.

Suppose the tables were turned. You find yourself attracted to women, but your religion tells you that you may only marry and be intimate with men.

Maybe we could share clothes.

If the church required us to be gay, I guess we would finally be okay with our spouses throwing out the swimsuit issue before we got home.

I don't think the Bateman-BYU that I graduated from would have allowed an official BYU function such as this.

I mean, all in all, this was pretty tame stuff. BYU students living the honor code, who have testimonies, talking about their experience with same sex attraction and homosexuality. You didn't hear anything, for example, about gay sexual experiences or any of a number of things that could be discussed in a Q&A.

Of course, one wonders if and when this trickles up to the BOT, whether the hammer comes crashing down.

And this crazy anti-gay group. It's like the worst caricature of the former poster JohnnyLingo or something. I'll bet good money have the members are repressed gays.
