I have two feelings about Watterson:
That he is to be commended for fearlessly pursuing what interests him. And also that he is a narcissistic schmuck living off royalties, making crap paintings, and not contributing to the greater good. At least Berkeley Breathed is writing kids books. I find it a bit sad that what I consider a modern golden age of comics (Calvin & Hobbes, The Far Side, and Bloom County) is passed, with the artists now completely out of comics. That just tells you that it has be grueling. |
