What does this D-league move mean for Jimmer.
One thing. The kid REALLY wants to play in the NBA. And he believes he can contribute meaningfully in the NBA. He is not interested in just cashing checks for the next years playing in obscurity in Europe. I laugh when BYUTV talks about how great Travis Hansen's Russian basketball career was. When us BYU fans can't name a team he's been on over there, nor ever saw a game. I'm happy he cashed checks, but his pro career means zero to me. Jimmer doesn't want that. I'm glad. Because none of us are going to pay any attention to Euro-Jimmer. |

Acknowledgement in this article from the Knicks that Jimmer is attractive as a box office draw. Quote:

Enjoyed watching Jimmer on Youtube last night with the D-League. He had a great game. 37 points. Drove to the bucket, BYU-style. And hit from the outside. A far cry from the frustrated ineffectual Jimmer I was used to seeing in the NBA. Jimmer played PG for the most part and distributed the ball well.
I hope the folks in the stands were excited and will come back for more. Would be nice to see Jimmer become a D-league folk hero. It will also be interesting to see if the Youtube vids get a boost from Jimmer. That's something that the league can measure. Seems like Jimmer was getting a lot of noise on CB last night. |

Jimmer struggled last night. 19 points, but only 4 of 14 from the field. Did not really dictate anything on the court. Burned on defense.
Put very simply, Jimmer is a boy in a man's league. What I mean by that is that he plain just doesn't have the athleticism to be a good player at that level. "Well what about [insert NBA white guy], why can't Jimmer be like him?" Well you know what, it's actually possible for a white man to be very athletic. That's why those that are in the NBA and have success, are able to do so. I wish I was wrong, but I don't think there is going to be a second chapter for Jimmer in the NBA. Now admittedly the other team had NBA talent. Dante Jones has spent many years in the NBA. That's how competitive the NBA is. All it takes is a little push, and you are gone. Every year new bodies coming in, that means old bodies have to go out. |
