Eric Holder
that a guy who was instrumental in getting Marc Rich pardoned should be the head of law enforcement in the United States in 2009 is absolutely fitting of what America is and has become.

I think you're overreacting, especially as a libertarian and a critic of the Bush administration's torture/wiretapping/Patriot Act policies. Holder will serve your interests to a greater degree than Gonzales or Mukasey ever did (I'm leaving Ashcroft out of this). If you care about the tyranny of the state, then you want Holder rather than any Bush alternative. The sun is rising; stop your shivering in the shadows. There's sunlight and warmth to be had.

Holder supported the ban of all private firearm sales.
Hardly someone who protects me from the tyranny of the state. |

You make the choice: would you rather have Holder as AG or Gonzales. And "neither" isn't an option. Think hard. Think about what scares you and Archaea most: government control over your private lives.
I guess you don't care about guns as much as you thought you did.

And give you wiretapping, torture, midnight/invisible extradition, etc. Remember, you have a Supreme Court will to stand up for your gun rights . . . It's not as if it all depended on the AG. That's just silly. It doesn't matter who Obama selected as AG and this administration's view of guns would be the same. Moreover, if you're making a prosecutorial discretion point, then have you seen the DOJ's stats regarding enforcement of federal gun laws over the past 8 years? Every year it's been a top priority. Why? B/c they're easy convictions.

Because Gonzales was an idiot doesn't mean that Holder isn't either.
Trust me, Holder is no libertarian. Neither is Obama. |

So you think if Obama's AG nominee were against gun regulation, that would change something? It wouldn't at all. Obama sets the gun policy of the admnistration, and the DOJ will be enforcing federal gun laws forever b/c they're easy convictions. The point is that Waters' energy is wasted getting in a huff over Holder. But his energy was well-spent when getting in a huff over Bush's DOJ -- it was that DOJ that gave a legal blessing to torture, wiretapping, etc. Holder has criticized those blessings.
Misdirected scorn and misused energy.
